The Peterborough Children's Chorus is an auditioned choir open to all children from age 8 to 19 living in Peterborough and the surrounding area. How do I become a member of the Peterborough Children's Chorus?
PCC auditions interested children between the ages of 8 and 19 living in and around Peterborough, Ontario, Canada and selects members based on their musical potential and ability. Please go to our

When was the PCC started and why?
The Peterborough Children's Chorus formed in 1999 as a continuation of the Peterborough Board of Education sponsored Peterborough County Children's Choir". When school board's amalgamated in 1998, Peterborough no longer provided a music director for the choir. The new "Peterborough Children's Chorus" was established as a parent-board operated choir to promote the advancement of choral music by and for children.

What are the ages of children in each choir?
Junior Choir is for children age 8 to 11
(Grade 3 to Grade 5). They receive 1 hour of training each week during the school year.

Concert Choir is for children ages 11 to 19 (Grade 6 to Grade 12). Choristers who have attended the Junior Choir will have to pass another audition to gain acceptance into the Concert Choir. Concert Choir choristers receive at least 1 hour and 30 minutes of musical training each week during the school year.

Youth Choir is for boys with changed voices and girls from grade 10 and up who have successfully passed an audition.  Youth Choir members receive 1 hour and 30 minutes of musical training each week.

When does the choir rehearse and where?Members meet once a week throughout most of the school year (September to May) to learn and practice a variety of musical pieces. They meet at Queen Mary Public School located at the corner of Monaghan and Weller in Peterborough Ontario. Junior Choir practices for 1 hour per week, Concert and Youth Choirs practice for 1½ hours each week.

Other practices may take place throughout the choir year on an as-need basis.

There is a mandatory dress rehearsal before any concert performance.

What does it cost to belong to the choir?
Junior Choir fees for the 2007-2008 choir year are $170 plus $50 in fundraising. This fee includes the cost of the day long workshop in the fall.

Concert Choir: fees for the 2007-2008 choir year are $245 plus $50 in fundraising. This fee includes the cost of the overnight workshop in the fall.

Youth Choir Ladies: fees for the 2007-2008 choir year are $245 plus $50 in fundraising.  This fee includes the cost of the overnight workshop in the fall.

Youth Choir Men: fees for the 2007-2008 choir year are $200 plus $50 in fundraising.  This fee includes the cost of the overnight workshop in the fall.

When does the choir hold concerts?
PCC performs a minimum two concerts per year – one at Christmas and one in the spring. The community is invited to purchase tickets to attend these concerts.

Does the choir participate in competitions?
PCC competes in at least 2 festivals each year usually the Kiwanis Festival in Peterborough and the Ontario Vocal Festival each year. The PCC has traditionally held high standings at each of these competitions.

PCC plans for an out of province tour every second year. In the spring of 2006, the Concert and Youth Choirs traveled to British Columbia as part of a SEVEC exchange.

What other events does the choir take part in?
A workshop takes place each year in the early fall - close to the beginning of the school year. This is an overnight event for Concert and Youth choristers and a day long event for Junior choristers.

The purpose of the workshop is for social interaction as well as musical training.

Who organizes the choir?
PCC staff consists of a Music Director, two Music Accompanists and
one Administrative Assistant.

The PCC is governed by a board of directors consisting of a minimum of eight members who oversee the following committees:
